On 17.08.23, Thursday night over East Tennessee a line of lights moving in coordination were spotted across the sky. This was a glimpse of the unique satellite technology. Actually these were the group of satellites developed by world’s richest man Elon Musk’s company SpaceX to provide internet access to remote locations.
Starlink satellite train over East Tennessee astronomers concerned
Over the five years Starlink has already launched thousands of satellites to provide high speed internet access above 1 million locations around the world. On Thursday night the SpaceX satellite orbited about 340 miles above the planet, the view was dynamic from the ground on a clear night.
Previous year SpaceX requested to deploy 7,500 Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) approved the request.
Some astronomers raised concerns that spacex’s bright light can disrupt research.
Some intellectual sites and apps not affiliated with SpaceX have launched that allow users to track the satellites and estimate when you may see them. Although, they also do not claim to be completely accurate.
