Katherine Megan McArthur was born on 30 August 1971 in Honolulu, Hawaii. McArthur is an American oceanographer, engineer and NASA astronaut. Oceanographers usually study ocean science or sea science. NASA scientist Megan has served as a Capsule communicator (CAPCOM) for Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS). 

Megan McArthur has operated one Space Shuttle mission (STS 125) and one SpaceX mission (SpaceX crew 2) on Crew Dragon Endeavour. Crew Dragon Endeavour is a Spacecraft manufactured by Alon Musk’s SpaceX and used by NASA’s commercial crew programme.  

Canadarm is a series of robotic arms and she is known as the last person to use Canadarm for Hubble Space Telescope. She also worked in Shuttle Avionics Laboratory (SAIL).

Early life

Katherine Megan McArthur was born in Honolulu Hawaii US but grew up in California. She did her schooling from London Central High School and graduated from St. Francis High School in Mountain View, California. In 1993  she  earned a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering at the University of California Los Angeles. In 2002 she achieved a PhD in Oceanography and later became a NASA astronaut. She did oceanography from Scripps institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.

In July 2000 Megan was selected as a mission specialist by NASA, she joined training in August 2000. NASA oceanographer Megan was trained at the Sonny Carter Training Facility. NBL is a training facility located near the Johnson space centre in Houston, Texas. Her training period was 2 years and after completing the training and evaluation she was assigned to the Astronaut Office Shuttle Operations Branch. Where she worked in the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL) on technical issues of the shuttle system.  

In the six month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS) she served as the crew support Astronaut for the expedition 9 crew. Katherine Megan McArthur also worked in the Space Station and Space Shuttle Mission Control Centres as a capsule communicator (CAPCOM). Capsule communicators are basically known as flight controllers who work at computer consoles and use telemetry to monitor technical aspects of a mission space.

2022 – SpaceX Dragon support vessel GO searcher was renamed Megan and Go Navigator was named Shannon. 

2021 – Megan McArthur was selected as Boomburg New Economic Catalyst.

Personal life 

Megan McArthur fell in love with fellow astronaut Bob Behnken and both got married after  maintaining a good relationship. After marriage they have one son named Theodore “Theo” Behnken. She appeared as an animated version in the season 4 and 7 of children television series called Blaze and the Monster Machines.
