NASA’s full form is National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Whereas ESA stands for European space agency. Difference between NASA and ESA including their headquarters, budget and funding sources are shared in this blog post.

NASA

National Aeronautic and Space Administration was established in 1958 by president Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is an independent agency of the federal government of the United States government. The agency is responsible for space exploration and conducting scientific research. In 1957 first artificial sputnik was launched by Soviet Union and NASA was launched by Dwight in response to that. To learn about our solar system and universe beyond is one of the primary goals of NASA.

Voyager was launched in 1977 and it was NASA’s most famous quest that travelled the farthest ever any human made object. NASA is known for scientific inventions and has invented GPS and memory foam which now became the part of the everybody’s life. Agency offers different kind of educational programs to students and resources to schools and teachers. It also inspires next generation scientist and engineers and motivates them to think about new idea and research that can contribute towards the Earth solar system and the whole University.

NASA and ESA are two different space agencies with different mission, objectives and strategies but same goal of exploring the universe and understanding the human. Some key differences are given below:

Headquarter located at Paris, France.

ESA

ESA is a European space agency established in 1975 as a collaboration between European countries and timely funded by its member states. It is an intergovernmental organisation also known as International organisation and International institution. It is an organisation of voice member states dedicated to space exploration. Headquarter of European space agency is situated in Paris. While talking about the staff this European organisation contains worldwide staff of 2200 in 2018. It has an annual budget of €4.9 billion in 2023. ULF Dietrich Merbold was the first ESA astronaut to fly in the space

EAC centres that trains astronauts for future missions are situated in Cologne, Germany.

ECSAT – European Centre for space application and telecommunication is a research Institute formed in 2009.

ECSAT is located in Harwell, England.

ESTRACK – European space tracking contains number of ground base space tracking stations.

ESTRACK is operated by the European space operation centres.
