When I was kid I thought ants live only for one or two days or some hours but later I got to know that queen ant can live for 30 years and worker ants survives for 2-3 years. However male ants have short life and survive only for few weeks.

I want to share something with you and you might feel it is a stupid thing as I am feeling now. In my childhood days one day when I was sitting on a grass with one of my friend and suddenly we saw ant roaming on the grass. My friend said catching this ant and wrapping it in between the grass and eating will make our eyes sharper and healthier. You know, we did exactly the same for couple of weeks later we realized nothing is happening and we stopped this kiddish activity. 

Another hilarious activity I have done in our childhood days was we use to dig a small pit at the corner of playing ground and we put some ants along with grasshopper, mealybugs and cover the dig with a transparent polythene and make them fight. It seems like a wrestling match for us and we chooses the insects in our teams one kid says ant is in my team other says mealybug is in my team like this we have done this another foolish activity and later we realize this is not the good thing for insects and we stopped this foolish activity as well.

Ant’s life starts from an egg and they came in earth in the cretaceous period and they evolved from vespoid wasp ancestors. Ants have tiny genome size and genome sizes is a fundamental characteristic of an organism.

Ants are eusocial insects which means overlapping generations in a colony of adults. In which labours are divided into reproductive and non reproductive groups and it has a leader of the colony called queen ant. Ants evolved from the vaspoid vasp and there are total of 22000 species are classified. Ants forms colonies and interesting thing is the colony consist of a single species capable of maintaining its complete life cycle. Ant colonies consist of various castes of sterlite, wingless females. Most wingless female ants are workers and soldiers these workers are called ergates and soldiers are called dinergates. Ant colonies also have fertile male ants they are called “drones”. The colonies are consist of one or more fertile female ants called “queens” or gynes. Army ant is a foreign colony of ants and drone ants can enter in this colony to mate with existing queens.

According to experts the colony is a team of super organism because these ants confidently and collectibly work together, they operate as a unified entity they inspire others how to work in a team. They eat almost everything and the speciality is they always eat in a group. 

Some ant nests consists of multiple queens and some nests are without a single queen, let’s understand both types of colonies. Colonies in which queen lives is called queen right colonies and queen lack colonies are called gamergates colonies. Worker ant with the ability of reproducing are called gamergates.
