Katherine Calvin is the present chief scientist of NASA. She is an earth scientist at the Joint Global Change Research Institute. Katherine is known for her contribution to the third US National Climate Assessment and two special reports by Intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC).

Being an earth scientist she researches how to use global resources for human use by using earth modeling system at JGCRI. Catherine is performing this activity under the directions of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and University of Maryland. She had completed her PhD in 2008 and started working at PNNL.
She worked in College Park Maryland with Global change assessment model of JGCRI. The model is all about exploring and analyzing the relationship between earth system and global climate change. With the help of environmental and socioeconomic lens she researches the interaction between global resources focusing on the impact of land, water and energy.

It concludes that governments of the world would need to heavily reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emission by the end of the century in order to limit the global increase in temperature to 3-5 °F.
Contribution of Katherine for two IPCC special report on climate change makes her incredible. IPCC used Calvins research on a special report on global warming of 1.5 °C in the year 2018.

Katherine Calvin has completed her bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from Maryland University (1999-2003). From the Stanford University she earned a master degree and PhD in management science and engineering. She worked as an International energy analyst for two years at Us Energy Information Administration during the period of PhD. In 2008 she completed her thesis “Participation in international environment agreements: a game theoretic study”.
